One of my fav monty python sketches. Nietzsche has been booked for arguing with the referee (no shock there). He accused confucius of having no free will, lol.

My Last Semester...
This is my last semester at SHU, very soon I'll be picking where to go to get my Masters in history (my speciality being late medieval-early renaissance Europe). My senior thesis is due VERY soon.. like next weekend.. so I doubt I can hang out with my friends much until then, however the caffeteria is handing out free "Tab" energy drinks today, so i got my 12 pack all set for tonight.

Now I know what you're thinking, "Well at least you started your thesis... right? I mean you said you would over winter break." Right yeah, I meant to do that... and I have done my research but haven't really typed anything. I blame it mostly on World of Warcraft, which I got in late November and have been playing a lot since. The real world is overrated.
Since there's only so much time in the day I have kinda fallen out of my Magic the Gathering hobby, but I still have my decks ready in case any casual mages out there want to duel.

Hm what else... For the past couple months I've been woken up every three or four days around 3am by nightmares... It's ok though, with my thesis due soon I doubt I'll be sleeping anytime soon.

so I'm back at school
Yep... starting my senior year here at SHU. A lot has happened since my last update.

So.. I got a new job at Waldensbooks in the Trumbull mall, and it's not too bad, I just wish the rate of pay was a bit higher, I sorely need money.

At school I'm now a CLA (classroom learning assistant) for the history dept, which means I get to tutor other students in history. It's another job, but I won't get paid until the end of the semester.

I've been working hard on my senior thesis. Again it's on late medieval - early Ren witchcraft. I'm arguing that while sorcery and magic were real to the medieval mind and that perhaps some of those that were executed actually were guilty of some diabolical act, material or "spiritual" (which was, again, reality to everyone during that time). While that might be true, there is absolutley no hard evidence to conclude that were was ever an united and organized but suppressed secret society of pagans, contrary to what certain historians have claimed. Yep.. I'm in over my head.

For those keeping score I now own 9,961 Magic the gathering cards, so close to the 10,000 mark.

It's football season and I'm feeling it with the Giants pwning the Eagles in the 4th quarter and OT for the W yesterday.

I noticed on Rob's "Put on notice" picture he has "People who claim 'Greedo shot first.'" Now I agree, but honestly I was not even aware there was a debate about it. Who the hell is claiming Greedo shot first? I was 5 when I first saw Star Wars and I had no problem understanding that Han Solo shot Greedo first. I mean if Greedo shot first, considering how close he was to Han, I'd think Han would be dead, unless Greedo does not know how to use a blaster.

Ok that's it for now...

suo xi fei suo yong, suo yong fei suo xi
Cancel the state funeral and tell the king to stop blubbing, I'm not dead! I've simply run out of juice, and before the girls start lamenting "oh what's the point in living anymore" I'm talking about beer. But it's alright because the semester's finished.

Also my prayers have been answered, I will not be living at school next semester! Ok honestly... this semester wasn't bad, far and away better than the torment I had to endure college freshman year, it's a bloody miracle I'm still sane.

Over the summer I hope to get to work on my senior thesis on late medieval-early ren. witchcraft. Been reading for months about the topic, so I'm almost ready to start typing.

I've been really digging the new Wumpscut album, "Cannibal Anthem." Don't let the name mislead you, it's a really good cd; mine's imported straight from Germany and autographed by the man himself, Rudy Ratzinger. Although it's in German, the lyrics aren't bad, in this cd he once again remins me of Friedrich Nietszche (after he went insane) if he had a synth and keyboard. Sag warum indeed.

Ok so until next time,
remember:
What is studied is not what is needed, and what is needed is not what is studied.

Not too bad...
Had a pretty good day yesterday. I was initiated (well, officially, not yet, but I will be) into Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Alpha Theta. Now I know what you're all thinking "Mike, have you gone insane (well yes... sometime ago, er but continue), Why did you join a fraternity?!" Well, those aren't frats but actually honor societies. Phi Eta Sigma's for those who had a pretty high GPA their freshman year, and Phi Alpha Theta is for history majors with a high GPA. I'm also going to intern for the Darian Historical Society this fall, probably giving tours or something. And I ordered Wumpscut's latest cd, I'm not waiting for FYE to eventually get it. It sounds just too damn good and I want it now... though I wonder how long it'll take for something to ship from Germany to here. Anyway I can't wait, the cd is autographed by the man himself, Rudy. That means a lot to me, shows how much he cares about his American fans, all five of us. Oh and tomorrow's thursday, so right now God is in His heaven and all is right with the world.

Stolen from Rob
High school survey

1) Where did you graduate from and what year?
St. Joseph High School 03

2) Did you have school pride?
I agree with what Rob said here: "i think everyone who goes there starts out with some, but then it gets to the point of 'why do i still go here?! is it college yet?!'"
Oh I was so wide-eyed and hopeful when I stepped through those doors...so hopeful. I was told by my parents this was going to be the best years of my life and I believed them...

3) Was your prom a night to remember?
Heck yeah it was. Stayed home and got a lot of work done.

4) Do you own all 4 Yearbooks?
yeah...

5) What was the worst trouble you ever got into?
Accused of plagarism by Mrs Anderson freshman year. Thought it was too good in that I was trying to prove a point instead of doing a cheesy survey of the old testament. She didn't realize at the time that I didn't have the mind of the average saint joe's freshman, which I guess isn't saying much...

6) What kind of people did you hang out with?
I made most of my friends sophmore year and I've been hanging out with most of those guys ever since, causing all sorts of hell.

7) What was your number 1 choice of College in HS?
NYU but a crappy SAT score and zero out of school activities sealed my fate and pushed me onto my fall-back school, shu...

8) What radio station did you jam out to in highschool?
104.1 (Radio 104)

9) Were you involved in any organizations or clubs?
Freshman year I was in Lawyer's Club, and Sophmore year I was in the Debate team

10) What were your favorite classes in High School?
History and religious studies classes, whether it was learning Shinto or making sister janice look dumb.

11) Who was your big crush in High School?
... Tell me you did not just go there... er, next question

12) Would you say you've changed a lot since highschool?
I have a beard now. Honestly I'm 21 now but I still feel like I'm 18, idk if that's a good thing or not...

13) What do you miss the most about it?
Seeing my friends every day.

14) Your worst memory of HS?
Oh wow... let's see... I can make a bloody long list here... next question for the sake of time.

15) Did you have a car?
Yes but no license...

16) What were your school colors?
maroon and gold

17) Who were your fav. teachers?
My Italian teacher Mrs Reed was great. I liked Mrs Anderson's World Religions class. The rest of my teachers eh...

18) Did you own a cell phone in highschool?
not till Jr year did i officaly have one

19) Did you leave campus for lunch?
As Rob said: "we werent even allowed to go into the "court yard" to eat!" I think they said it was because we were living in a post 9/11 world and something about hating our class..

20) If so, where was your fav. place to go eat?
see above

21) Were you always late to class?
no

22) Did you ever have to stay for Saturday school?
saturday school...?

23) Did you ever ditch?
No, but if I had my license I'd really be tempted.

24) When it comes time for the reunion will you be there?
Probably, though I'm sure i'll hear a lot of "who were you again?"

25) Do you wish you were still in high school?
I wouldn't mind it if I could go back for another semester. There are a number of things I should have done differently. Indeed I think I was screwed out of a legt highschool experience.

Ok then..
It's been a few days since I updated... So what have I been up to you may ask, well I've been working on making my own Magic the Gathering set. That's right, making my own set of cards. The set is an "improved" version of the weak Homelands set with a few of my own card ideas, though I still haven't gotten around to making flavor texts, anyway here's a sample of what I got so far:

My own card ideas:

All of your creatures get plainswalk and can’t be blocked by black creatures

Lord Sengir 5 B B B
Legendary Vampire Baron, Rare
Flying
Whenever a creature dealt damage by Lord Sengir is put into a graveyard, put a +2/+2 counter on Lord Sengir.

And another semester
My Chinese history since 1920 professor: Ok, well I trust that all of the Juniors in this class who are History majors have already handed in their senior thesis proposals to the department.

Me: ....huh...?

And so another semester begins. I thought I was going to have a single this marking period, sadly that's not the case. Got a new roommate and he snores VERY loudly... I'm having a hard time staying awake as I type this entry. It's too early in the semester to be this tired. I would have had all As last semester if it wasn't for my damned Philosophical Anthropology class. I got a B in it, mostly because the professor loathed my paper on medieval theology (said it wasn't focused enough) and because of the "surprise" midterm; went to class without knowing it was the day of the midterm. This semester's classes are:

China in Revolution: China since 1920
Discovery and Conquest (the course starts with the Vikings and ends with the Europeans in the 16th century)
Intro to Archeology
Shakespeare (an English elective that should be very easy)
Philosophical Theology

Oh well, may God save the King, cause no one else will.

and then things got worse...
Crashed my car yesterday. I'm fine, so is the other guy and his car, can't say the same for my car. I'm without transportation for the next few weeks and I missed my class today because the bloody campus shuttle never arrived. I'm really worried about how unreliable the shuttle is, since I'll need it to make my finals next week. If it decides to no-show again I'm screwed. The strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must. I never meant anyone any harm, I just want to be left alone in my room and go bowling once and awhile. That's all I really want out of life, why must it take so much out of me? And I'm an excellent student, I enjoy learning but why must fate conspire against me and make school so much harder than it really is? Oh well, tell the King to stop blubbing and cancel the state funeral, I'm not dead.

how i want my funeral to go...
Ok I've been doing some serious thinking into my funeral lately and I've finally figured out how I'd want it to go. Firstly I wish to be dressed like a vampire, I mean fangs and cape but I do not blood coming out of the sides of my mouth since I don't want this to look silly. I would also like the following people to say a few words: Rudy (from Wumpscut), Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson (in their Blackadder characters), Crispin Glover, and perhaps someone impersonating Stalin. I also want the theme song to "curb your enthusiasm" to be played over and over again during the service, except for when the priest is making his way to the altar, when that happens i want the tune of "three blind mice" to be played. As I'm being carried out of the church I want everyone involved to break into a song and dance number which would be carefully choreographed by the bands "Velvet Acid Christ", "Flashpoint" (They do christian-rock), and "my chemical romance" (since i am ripping the idea off from them). BTW God help you if you frickin drop me! On my tombstone i want something like:

To my beloved son Umberto

My peace be with you!
Tuesday I shall be in Rome.
I should like to see you,
along with His Holiness the Pope.

-The Crucified

Now in the coffin I want: A laptop with internet access, some movies like "Willard", "The big lebowski", "LOTR trilogy", "Napoleon dynamite", amd "shaun of the dead". The coffin should have lights and air conditioner (even the dead need to see, eh?) and perhaps a fridge stocked with the essentail groceries, namely guinness extra stout, killian's, samuel smith's taddy porter, and duvel's. I'd also appreciate a musket salute and a loud applause would be most appreciated as my coffin is slid into its monument. Lastly I'd like to be unearthed regularly and kept company, afterall I'd do the same for any of you.

You are a Samurai

The ancient Samurai is world renound and has been
reveared through out history. The true esence
of the Samurai is in aiding and fighting for
the good of others as well as themselves. It
was custom for the training of the ancient
Samurai to begin their training early in their
childhood and to be trained to be true masters
of every aspect of life of the people they
protect. This ment that the training of these
warriors included cooking, gardening,
carpentry, weaving, and much more in addition
to combat and the honorable code of the
Samurai.

Any that follow the path of a Samurai, regardless
of their training, are warriors of the people.
This does not eliminate actions for personal
gain, that is the path of a martyr, but it
simply means to help those that you can, when
you can, however you can. That is the true path
for the samurai warrior.

did i really need to take a quiz to tell me this?
You scored as Christianity. Your views are most similar to those of Christianity. Do more research on Christianity and possibly consider being baptized and accepting Jesus, if you aren't already Christian.

Christianity is the second of the Abrahamic faiths; it follows Judaism and is followed by Islam. It differs in its belief of Jesus, as not a prophet nor historical figure, but as God in human form. The Holy Trinity is the concept that God takes three forms: the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Ghost (sometimes called Holy Spirit). Jesus taught the idea of instead of seeking revenge, one should love his or her neighbors and enemies. Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross to save humankind and forgive people's sins.

hmm let's see, christianity followed very closely by paganism, ok no surprises there and it's followed by... buddhism?? hm, i would have thought that'd be a bit lower, definately after Islam... odd.

"o saeculum, o literae! juvat vivere!" ...yeah once i get some cash and some sense...
Right now just putting off typing up an essay. So how's everyone doing out there? Alright... I think college is really taking its toll on me, feeling like i'm slowly going insane... right now listening to a Crispin Glover song and really digging it, which kinda scares me. It isn't so much the dorm life as it is the school, and how much they remind of SJs when it comes to their lack of organization and not using the money it pulls from its students properly. My classes are pathetically overcrowded and parking is a real nightmare, and it doesn't help that a lot of the students seem to not know how to properly park their cars. Money is incredibly tight atm, after today's class I'm going to the payroll office and probably do one of my rare willard-esque outbursts. I really wish money wasn't so tight right now, since Magic produced a new set called "Ravnica" which looks incredibly sexy. I swear they must put crack on those cards.
I'm also upset with a few of my classes, namely my "Ancient and Medieval political thought" class. I took it not so much for the "ancient" but rather for the "medieval" but as it turns out we will only cover the Middle Ages during the last week of class, everything prior to it is ancient greece and rome, bleh! k, i better get to work then, just be happy that i updated so everyone can rest easy that I'm not dead.

back in school... well at least i can drink this year
yeah... it's bloody awful. only one toilet, one tub, and one sink for six people (counting myself). No cable (unless we pay extra for it), air conditioning, microwaves, nor mini fridges (which always came with the room). Plus i'm about a block away from the main campus. plus i just hate college life in general... what with the partying and the hip music and whatnot... is it thursday yet?

Atm I'm on break...
Yep, just taking some time off from work to update. I had a flat tire while on the way to work today, that was a lot of fun, but I was able to make it work (only a half hour late) by taking my dad's car. I also ordered some cards online today, thinking about making a raffinity deck (if you don't know what that is but play magic (Rob i'm looking in your direction) think: ALOT of artifacts, very fast, opponent loses on turn 4). I'm also working on making a casual vampire deck as well, and a knight deck (Which i'll name "spamalot"), hopefully i can get these little projects wrapped up before the end of the summer when money will be a bit tighter.
I can't wait for tomorrow, bowling with the guys and having a nice drink... and by nice drink i mean anything that's not "lite" and not named "Red Stripe" which had a bloody awful aftertaste imo.
I'm still playing the drums and trying to get something going with my brother and his friend but it's not working out too well. It's a real mess, him saying i'm playing too fast, me saying he's not keeping up bleh. Alright i got to get back to work.

well, rob has a country, so do i:
http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=groveshire

democracy's great... in a developed country. My country is in the middle of hostile territory, so you understand why my nation is under such a strict centralist regime. Also the government needs money and quickly, not independent businesses who, if were under the care of a capitalist system, would do ANYTHING to get on the same level as foreign businesses as fast as possible. a Once the country develops economically and culturally then the people can have their elections.
Until then, father knows best.

Now for the real world:
-I will be (reenacting) fighting the American traitor dogs this saturday and again next saturday in stratford. Rule Britania, and sucks to you traitor George.

-Currently in the middle of a biography on Thomas More, good stuff. Sure he might of had a few heretics burnt here and there and loved St. Augustine (IMO a lunatic and a bit overrated) but still a good read.

-Finally finished my Blue/green Madness deck (magic the gathering). Now currently working on a Raffinity deck, even though i'm afraid that some of the necessary cards are going to get the banhammer.

yeah my life is good

Soon i'll be 21. I can't wait, as soon as i'm of age I'll be out the door trying to find some Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale. It was a favorite drink of the British that colonized India since it was the only beer that would remain fresh throughout the voyage. So if it's good enough for our boys over in India than dammit it's good enough for me.
I also finally finished counting every single Magic the Gathering card i own (not counting basic land). The grand total (at the moment) is: 5,820 cards.
I have spent weeks entering every card i own into a computer program (Magic Workstation) so now when i want to see how many copies of a card i own i can just call up that list and search for that card, which is easier than having to look through my binders and all of my boxes.
I'm also in the middle of making a blue/green Madness deck, which is extremely competitive and really inexpensive to make, yet it has gone over the more expensive competitive decks in tournaments time and again.
There was a Renaissance fair in ansonia recently... which i didn't go to. I really wanted to go but i was away on a cruise while it was scheduled to take place. If i ever go to one i would like to go in costume, but it's pretty damned expensive. Hell even a peasant's outfit can be costly.
oh well... hm what else...ok i think that's it..

well i changed my user pic, decided to give Willard a rest after two years. So the 4th of july was fun, though my dad was a little upset that i was wearing a shirt with England's flag on it (though he was more upset last year when i was wearing a Canada shirt). Work is fine... next week i'll be away on a cruise to canada, though i won't be 21 yet (that's not until later this month). Thursday should be a lot of fun, since fireworks will be pretty cheap... yep, i just know jeremy's looking forward to it too. hmm.. it's 3am... i guess i should sleep, though i don't got work until 5pm tomorrow. but i should get to the gym. right then, later
